Frames and supports in 15th and 16th-century Southern Netherlandish painting

Open: wings: text in gold paint on black background, late 15th century Inv. no. 663 Panels: each of the three panels consists of a single board, slotted into the groove of the frame. Frames: grooved: slotted dovetail joints at the top, each reinforced with two pegs, at the bottom through mortise and tenon joints, with a single reinforcing peg. The hinge blades are nailed flat to the outsides of the rails, in each case with three disk-shaped knuckles pivoting around a short pin.
