A Masterly Hand / Scientia Artis 9
9 8 Notes to the Reader The articles in this publication are numbered from 1 to 17. Illustrations in the articles are designated by the number of the article followed by their number within that article (for example, the first two illustrations in article 1 are fig. 1.1, fig. 1.2, and so on). The endnotes contain short bibliographic references. The complete reference can be found in the bibliography at the end of each article. References to other articles in the book are given as ‘author’s name, article number’ (for example, Peter te Poel, article 1). Information about the sculptures belonging to the Elsloo group, such as mate- rial and dimensions, can be found in the inventory at the back of the book. This information is therefore not mentioned systematically in the articles. Attribution to the Master of Elsloo / Elsloo group is likewise not mentioned in the captions. However, information about works that do not belong to the Elsloo group is given either in the captions or in the articles themselves. Dimensions are given in centimetres, in the order of height, width and depth. Where only two dimensions are given, they refer to height and width. A single dimension refers to height.
