11.4 a 11.4 b The St Anne with the Virgin and Child from Rindern The statue is 129.5 centimetres high, 95 centimetres wide and 42.9 centimetres deep (fig. 11.4a). The dimensions are nearly identical to the Elsloo St Anne. Unlike that statue, the Rindern St Anne has been completely hollowed out at the back (fig. 11.4b). The chisel that was used was obviously damaged, a pecu- liarity that has not as yet been noted on other statues. At the bottom two cores can be seen, which means that it was also made from a bifurcate trunk. It has not undergone dendrochronological examination. As on the Elsloo St Anne, no traces from a workbench were found on the bottom. The Child appears to have been cut from the main block, except for his left arm, which has been made separately and attached (fig. 11.1). The St Anne with the Virgin and Child fromMontfort The statue is 84.5 centimetres high, 50.5 centimetres wide and 26.5 centimetres deep (fig. 11.5a). At the back only Anne’s seat is hollowed out (fig. 11.5b). The inside of the cavity is smoothly finished.
