But there are also differences in the shape of the faces and the drapery. The sunken cheeks and the prominent cheekbones are more striking in John’s face. Christ has a lighter and more arching eyebrow ridge. Furthermore, the ­Saviour’s drapery has a simpler pattern. These differences are no doubt also due to the differing iconographic types of Christ and St John.
