BRUGES, GROENINGE MUSEUM 425 Recorded history relating to the woodworking In 1828 the panel of The Flaying is mentioned as being “split”. Blistering of the paintwork was reported in 1828, 1868-1870, 1869, 1871. In 1902, Paul Buéso mentions in a restoration estimate that one join has come undone in The Arrest, and two in The Flaying. In 1951, Paul Coremans observed the poorer state of conservation of The Flaying, three joins are re-glued, with five dowels instead of three. Buttons were placed to reinforce the various joins on the reverse, and a cross member placed along the central recess. In 1979, The Arrest was restored in the Museum workshop by restorer Edmond Florens (Janssens de Bisthoven 1983).
