Cette peinture provient d'un ancien polyptyque, dont le Musée de Lille possède deux autres éléments (voir n° objet 40002499 et 40002500). Un quatrième est conservé au musée Narodowe à Cracovie (Pologne).
Ces peintures avaient été attribuées à un artiste de l'école française avant 1893 ; à Pedro Serra en 1934 ; à Ramón Destorrent en 1944 et à Jaime Serra en 1954. Les peintures furent achetées par la commune de Lille en 1885.
